HOW POLITICS HELPED

  • Muslim leaders spread through defensive warfare, Muslim leaders and generals went out their way to protect the rights of other religious groups.
  • Jews and Christians sometimes paid higher taxes, but they were free to run their own religious affairs so long they did not insult Muhammad.

HOW POLITICS HURT

  • Caliphs did not force people to be Muslims, but those who were paid lower taxes and were given other benefits than those who didn't.
  • In 1453 the Conqueror ordered the largest Christian church to become a mosque, a place where Muslims worship.

HOW ECONOMICS HELPED

  • The Arabian Peninsula is in between 3 countries which were Asia, Europe, and Africa which made trade routes. These trade routes met in Mecca.
  • With trade other languages and religions like Christianity and Judaism were traded as well.

HOW ECONOMICS HELP

  • Traders carried silk from China and jewels, cotton and spices from India, Africa brought ivory and gold, and the Romans sent glass and gold to china and came to the arabian peninsula.
  • Arab nomads, called Bedouins migrated throughout the desert raising sheep, goats, and camels.

HOW ECONOMICS HURT

  • The Arabian peninsula is covered the hot dry desert and the environment is very harsh.
  • Summer temperatures often rise above 120 degrees, winters and nighttime temperatures can drop below freezing.

HOW ECONOMICS HURT

  • Annual rain fall dose not pass more than 3 to 4 inches, and droughts can last for years. When the rain comes it often falls as a violent storms, sometimes causing flash floods.
  • The desert is often swept by windstorms. Powerful winds may flare up suddenly, causing sandstorms.
