What is an archetype?

An archetype is a character, a place, an event, or a symbol that recurs throughout Literature, film, cultures, and/or time. There is a specific pattern or formula associated with archetypes.

Archetype: Character
Example: The Journey Hero
1) Where have we seen this archetype of the hero?
2) Can you think of other archetypal characters that you've seen repeated in different books/films?

Example: Loss of Innocence
