Archimedes was an Ancient Greek mathematician, physicist, engineer, inventor and astronomer.
He is regarded as one of the most influential ancient mathematicians
Archimedes of Syracuse was born in the Greek populated island of Syracue, nowadays Southern Italy, in 287BC
Little is known about his early life other but it is speculated that he studied in Alexandria, Ancient Egypt.
His achievements include predicting modern calculus, applying concepts of infinitesimals, prove a range of geometrical theorems including the area of a circle, the surface volume of a sphere and the area under parabola. He is also credited with inventing the lever.
Archimedes' death is well documented compared to the rest of his life. It is said that during the Roman siege of Syracuse he was killed by a frustrated soldier after he would not follow orders. The soldier was executed after as Syracuse was seen as valuable.
