Birth and Death of Archimedes

Archimedes was born 287 B. C. in the port of Syracuse, Sicily in the colony of Magna Graecia.2.He was killed in 212 B. C. by a Roman solider, during the second public war.3.

  • He was Educated in Alexandria, Egypt.3.
  • He devoted much of his lifetime to research experiment!3.

Why is he important?

He is Important for his Inventions
Archimedes invented many things in his lifetime, and that is why he is so important. He was a mechanic! Here are some of the many inventions that Archimedes made. He established the science of physics, the lever compound pulley, The Archimedes Principle, and lastly the catapult!3

Explanation of inventions

  • Death ray- war tactic that May have been used against the Romans, and used 100 mirrors.2
  • Hydraulic screw- raises water from a lower level to a higher level.3

Archimedes Principle
Archimedes Principle states that a body immersed in fluid losses weight equal to the weight of the amount of fluid it displaces.3
