18th Century

  • Proposed April 8, 1864
  • Passed January 31, 1865
  • Ratified December 6, 1865

The first instance of slavery was in Jamestown, Virginia, 1619.

This amendment was proposed to end slavery and put and end to the civil war.

It was all agreed on when the civil war was over.

Anybody who owned slaves that didn't let them go was imprisoned.

The actually text of the amendment means no slaves, and no involuntary service labor.

Their has been supreme court cases on this amendment for example, 1851, Strader vs Graham, and 1857, Dred Scott vs Stanford.

It solve the problem of slavery in the U.S.
