Basic Argentina

The government of Argentina is a federal republic. The current president is Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

  • Argentina is a federal presidential constitutional republic
  • It is a member of the United Nations and the Organization of American States.

HISTORY OF ARGENTINA

  • As a result, there were some civil wars between 1810 and 1861.
  • By the beginning of the 20th century, Argentina was the 7th richest nation in the world.
  • In 1930, there was a military takeover. The country's prosperity began to decline.
  • In 1969, there were massive protests that came to be known as the "Dirty War"
  • By 1983, democratic elections stated up.

RELIGION OF ARGENTINA

  • The vast majority of Argentinians are Catholic
  • 24% of Argentinians attend church regularly.
  • 11% of Argentinians are non-religious.
  • Half of that number is agnostic, the other half being atheist.
  • Other religions include Buddhism and Islam as well as other minor religions.

Indigenous Andean ceremonies are celebrated with catholic figures replacing indigenous figures.

Although Evangelical Christians only make up 9% of the population, their numbers have been on the rise in the last decade.

Spanish is the official language of Argentina. For the most part, the dialect is de facto.

REGIONAL lANGUAGES

  • Araucano, the language of the Mapuche people.
  • Guarani, which is actually a group of languages.
  • Quechuan, which is derived from an indigenous language of the Andes.

Argentina is famous for the tango, which started in Buenos Aires.

Empanadas, which are stuffed pastries, are very popular in Argentina, as well as the rest of Latin America.

Martin Malherro was a well known Argentinian impressionist artist of the early 20th century.
