History

Juan Días de Solís became the first European explorer to set foot on Argentine soil in 1516. He was an explorer from Spain. Spain controlled a well established settlement before Argentina became independent.

Argentina gained its independence from Spain on July 8, 1816, after six years of war and tensions. Argentina was not a unified nation until 1862, 42 years after their independence.

Government

Argentina is a republic, which means the people have the power. Argentina's capital is Buenos Aires.

The building in which the president lives is named Casa Rosada. This is because the building is pink, and "Casa Rosada" translates to "pink house" in English.
