Arthur Miller was born in Harlem,New York to Isidore and Augusta Miller on October,17,1915. He was the second of three children. He had an older brother Kermit Miller(1912-2003) and the actress Joan Copeland (née Miller) born in 1922.
After the 1929 stock market crash the millers lost almost everything. The family moved to Flatbush Brooklyn from Manhattan.
Arthur worked odd jobs to save up money,so he could attend Michigan universty.
During the 1940s,Miller wrote plays and a novel called Focus.
He won fame with hit plays like All my Sons and Death of a salesman.
In the 1950s Arthur was called out by the government as being a suspected communist . He was called more than once before the House of Unamerican Activities. HUAC cited him for contempt of Congress for not naming other suspected communists. They went even further,refusing to renew his passport. This delayed Arthur from joining his new wife ,Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroe over in England. England was where Marilyn's latest movie The Prince and The Showgirl was being filmed.
Miller continued his career throughout the 1960s,1970s,and 1980s. He worked on writing books with his wife Inge. These works include:'In the Country'(1977) and 'Salesman in Beijing' .(1984)
He wrote the 1980 movie 'Playing for Time.' In 1987 Miller published his autobiography 'Timebends:A Life'.
