Artifact

What's an artifact?

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

WHAT'S AN ARTIFACT?

This is a presentation I will use to help introduce the idea of artifacts and our next writing assignment.

ANYTHING THAT IS MAN MADE IS AN ARTIFACT

TYPICALLY THEY ARE ITEMS OF HISTORICAL/CULTURAL INTEREST
I would spend a bit of time here, possibly even asking students if "insert object here" would be considered an artifact. I also try to make sure my student aren't too hung up on the second part of the definition...as the importance of an artifact changes from person to person. (ex. Family heirlooms)

ARTIFACTS HELP US UNDERSTAND THE PAST

Artifacts can show what was important in a specific time, the tools used, etc. You may even prompt students about this image. What's can it help us understand? Any questions come to mind?

THEY CAN EVEN TELL A STORY

This slide really will help introduce the assignment associated with this presentation. Here you could ask students if they know this artifact. Then give the, a brief history (story) about the coliseum.

YOUR TASK IS TO BRING IN YOUR OWN ARTIFACT

NEXT WEEK WE WILL BE TELLING THAT ARTIFACT'S STORY THROUGH WRITNG
This slide will introduce the assignment. We will be using the artifacts that students bring in to tell a story. At this time in the year we are also talking about personification....so many of the stories will actually be told from the artifact's perspective.
