WINSLOW'S FAMILY LIFE

  • Winslow was born on February 24, 1836, in Boston, Massachusetts
  • He was one of three sons
  • His mother was a water colorist and his first teacher.
  • Winslow's first job was a commercial illustrator
  • He was a famous artist, he started with oils and he was going into watercolor in the meantime.
  • He is best known for landscapes.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND : 19TH CENTURY

  • Andrew Jackson was the U.S. President in 1836
  • The Civil War between the north and the south lasted from 1861-1865 when Lincoln was president
  • In 1865, the brutal institution of slavery ended

One good tip is that you need to start with light sketches
