CHAIM POTOK

Chaim Potok is a world renowned Jewish author and Rabbi. In his career he wrote timeless wonders that amazed his audience and brought stories to life.

Potok was born on February 17,1929 in the Bronx, New York to Benjamin and Mollie Potok. He was raised in an Orthodox Jewish family where he learned the importance of the Torah.

He attended Yeshiva University where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Literature. In 1965, he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania where he received his Ph.D in Philosophy.

In 1967, Potok published his first book “The Chosen” which was listed as New York Times’ bestseller for 39 weeks, it also received the Edward Lewis Wallant Award. He published one of his most infamous books “My Name Is Asher Lev” in 1972, which received the National Jewish Book Award.

After the publication of his final book “Old Men at Midnight” in 2001, Chaim was diagnosed with brain cancer. On July 23, 2002, after a year long battle with cancer, Chaim Potok died in his Pennsylvania home. He is regarded as one of the best Jewish authors of all time.
