  • Ashputtle's mom died
  • Every day Ashputtle would visit her mother's grave
  • When it was winter, her dad remarried to a lady with 2 daughters
  • They were cold-hearted human beings
  • They thought Ashputtle was a 'silly goose' and told her to work

  • Ashputtle's dad went to the fair one day
  • He asked every daughter what they wanted
  • Ashputtle wanted the first branch to brush against his hat
  • He brought such home to Ashputtle
  • Later when he got home, Ashputtle planted the branch in her mother's grave

  • It grew to become a beautiful tree
  • 3 times a day Ashputtle prayed under the tree
  • Each time a bird came and perched on the tree
  • She made lots of wishes
  • The bird threw down what she had wished for

  • Ashputtle was called to brighten up her step-sisters
  • Her step-mother said she was 'sloven'
  • Then her step-mother gave her more work to do
  • Ashputtle went to the garden and cried to the doves
  • The doves replied by helping her with her dirty work

  • She returned to her step-mother
  • She used the excuse 'No, you have nothing to wear'
  • She had to do more work
  • She cried to the doves again
  • They helped her again with her dirty work

  • Her mother refused and said 'you don't know how to dance'
  • She cried to the doves to shake gold and silver down for the wedding
  • She went to the wedding, her step-mother and sisters didn't recongize her
  • She repeated this for 3 days
  • The Prince came to see who his bride was

  • He asked the first step-sister
  • It didn't fit so she cut off her toe
  • The doves sang to him, she wasn't the bride
  • He asked the second step-sister
  • It didn't fit so she cut off her heel

  • The doves sang again, she wasn't the bride
  • So the Prince asked if there were anymore daughters
  • Then came Ashputtle, the shoe fit perfectly
  • The doves sang, she's the true bride
  • Later at their wedding, the doves pecked her step-sisters eyes out
