What is Assistive Technology?
Assistive Technology is defined as "any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities." (Assistive Technology Act of 2004)
Examples of assistive technology include speech recognition software, eyegaze-controlled computers, augmentative communication devices, video magnifiers, FM systems, wheelchairs, built-up handles for utensils, and text-to-speech software.
