LEGAL SYSTEM

  • The assyrian law is similar to the sumarian and babylonian law.
  • However, the penalties for offenses were more brutal.
  • The legals system was developed nearly 500 years before the Babylonians.

An example law:
If a women shall bring her hand against a man, she shall be prosecuted, 30 manas of lead shall she pay and 20 blows shall they inflict upon her.

  • Palace- government site
  • Ruled by kings and governors of each territory
  • Paid taxes in the form of food,goods,labor,military supplies

  • Kings

  • Governors,palace administrators,tax collectors,scribes

ASSYRIAN ARTS

  • Assyrian art is mainly crafted out of stone.
  • The art displayed is usually royal affairs, hunting, and war related.
  • The art is predominantly animal forms like horses and lions.
  • The art of the animals is also in much greater detail than humans.
  • Most of the art found today is displayed in the British Museum. Ashurbanipal Lions.

CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE WORLD

  • Their biggest contribution to the world was racial mixing.
  • ^^Led to the growing cultural unification of the area.
  • Developed very powerful armies to deal with neighboring threats.
  • Also recorded and developed organized cities.
  • Traces of the first medicines due to war injuries.

FUN FACTS!

  • Men wore wrapped skirts.
  • Created the hanging gardens.
  • Believed their king represented the god Asher.

  • The egyptians tries to prevent the Chaldean forces attacking assyrians.
