2.
THE BASICS
It is made out of rock, medals, carbon, silicate compunds, clay
Three types are carbonaceous, silicate, medal rich
They rang in size from 20 feet(6meters)- 959 km (590 miles)
Thry are mainly found in are are solar system between mars and jupiter

DENFINE AN ASTEROID
A small rock body that orbits the sun
Depending on the asteroid it can differ in apperance
The rocks size ranges but the minerals it caries canges
Some minerals are silicate compounds, carbon, metals

ASTEROIDS
Iron meteorites: Iron 91 percent! Nickel 8.5 percent, Cobalt 0.6 percent
Stony Meteorites: Oxygen 36 percent, Iron 26 percent, Silicon 18 percent
Magnesium 14 percent, Aluminum 1.5 percent, Nickel 1.4 percent,
Calcium 1.3 percent

DO THEY ORBIT THE SUN
Yes they do
They go around the sun in elliptical orbits
Some make there own moons
They sometimes get hooked on a planets gravity and become a moon

6.
THE REASON FOR THE ASTEROID BELT
They belt formed from a solar nubula
Between mars and jupiter we have a asteroid belt
When the planetesimals became protopanets
Jupiter gave them to much orbital energy to form the belt
Collisions became too violent and the protoplanets

WHY DO SCIENTISTS LOOK FOR ASTEROIDS
An asteroid that is falling has tremendous of energy
2028 the asteroid 1997XF11 will come close to earth but miss
If this mile wide asteroid hit us at 30,000 mph
It would equal the force and energy of a 1 million megaton bomb
Asteroids like this are tracked and found through radar

THE LARGEST ASTEROID
The largest asteroid ever recorded is Ceres
This asteroid is 950 km (590 miles) in diameter
Ceres was discovered on Jan 1, 1801

FUN FACTS
Asteroids come in many colors from red to green to grey
Asteroids stay close to their belts
The asteroid belt by jupiter hints that it made a sunward move early in the solar system
There have been 8,900 asteroids that came close to Earth
The dinosaur killing asteroid that struck 65 million years ago struck at the Yucatán Peninsula

FUN FACTS
The one hazardous asteroid is one that is 500 feet wide and comes with in 4.65 miles of Earth
The largest asteroid, Ceres, contains water vapor
99.9% of the asteroid belt's original mass was lost in the first 100 million years of the Solar System's history
