PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Astronomical Coordinate System
Equatorial Coordinate System
What is this
- a celestial (небесный coordinate system widely used to specify the positions of celestial objects
- the most common one
- the Earth based coordinate system
celestial equator
- the projection of the Earth's equator onto the celestial sphere.
Declination
- measures the angular distance of an object perpendicular to the celestial equator.
- positive to the north, negative to the south.
- origin for declination is the celestial equator
right ascension
- measures the angular distance of an object eastward along the celestial equator
- right ascension is usually measured in hours, minutes and seconds instead of degrees
Let`s clarify this:
360 degree=24 hours
1 hour=60 min
1 min=60 sec
So:1 hours=15 degrees
1 min=0.25 degrees
