ARISTARCHUS

  • Reported to have had heliocentric model of the solar system.
  • Attempted to measure the distance to the moon and sun
  • Although his ratio was to small it was very important to science
  • His models wasn't accepted

PTOLEMY

CORPERNICUS

  • Felt Ptolemy's model was to complex
  • Aware of heliocentric idea
  • Developed heliocentric model

KEPLER

  • Created Kepler's laws
  • 1st law planet orbits are ellipses sun at center
  • 2nd law planets faster when orbit closer to the sun
  • 3rd law relates distance planet from sun to time takes to orbit

GALLILEO

  • Made improvements on the telescope
  • Showed earth was not the only object being orbited
  • Gave support to heliocentric model
