The Atakapa tribe is in the southeastern culture area group. It is the red area on the map.

MAKENLEE AND NICOLE

The Atakapa tribe is still present in Texas today. They are also still present in Louisiana. Yet they are very different from the past, but they have the same beliefs.

SHELTER

  • They lived in wigwaums
  • They made each one
  • They were made from brush

They Had simple clothing. Men Had breechcloth.Women had skirts. Shirts weren't necessary. They would sometimes also used hides.

  • they decorated their bodies with tribal tattoos
  • They used alligator oil for insect repel
  • They were famous for their red clay pottery
