1.
HISTORY OF ATOMS
Democritus (460 B.C.)
Develops the idea of atoms
Pounded up materials in pestile until
he reduced to smaller particles called
"ATOMA"

2.
ARISTOTLE (
Aristotle believed in 4 elements: air, water, earth, and fire.
Everyone believed him over Democritus when really
Democritus was right.
He believed that no matter how many times you cut matter in half
You still end up with a small piece of matter.

3.
ANTOINE LAVOISIER(1799)
First person to use the balance
Proposed the combustion theory
This led to mass measurements
Also proposed the Law of Conversation of mass.
4.
JOSEPH LOUIS PROUST(1799)
He proposed the law of Constant Composition
It was very radical.
5.
JOHN DALTON(1803)
He believed that all matter is composed of atoms
Atoms cannot be made or destroyed
Compounds are formed from atoms of the constituent elements.

6.
MICHAEL FARADAY(1832)
Studied a coined term called "electrolysis"
It was splitting molecules with electricity.
He was not a proponent of atomism.

7.
HENRI BECQUEREL(1896)
He was the discovery of Radioactivity
This term is used to describe some elements.
8.
J.J. THOMSON(1897)
He identified the negatively charged electron in cathode tube
He proposed the "plum pudding" model of the atom.
It was more massive.
9.
MARIE &PIERRE CURIE(1898)
They were interested in Becquerel's discovery.
Her and her husband discovered the radioactive-
Elements; which are polonium & radium.
10.
MAX PLANCK(1900)
Used the idea of quanta, to explain hot glowing matter.
11.
ALBERT ENSTIEN(1905)
Published the famous equation
E=mc2
