  • The smallest element of matter
  • They are so small that 100,000,000 fit on the head of a pin

  • Result from the combination of atoms becoming bonded.
  • Molecules result in the creation of new substances.

Pure substances made of only one type of atom

  • result from combining multiple atoms
  • Examples include Hydroxide and water

Hydroxide is the result of combining one hydrogen and one oxygen atom
