DEMOCRITAS & ARISTOLE

And their contribution to atoms

THEORIES OF DEMOCRITAS

  • All things were made of tiny, invisible, indestructible particles
  • It is now known as the "Atomic Theory"
  • Thought atoms varied in size, shape and weight

THEORIES OF ARISTOLE

  • Opposed the "Atomic Theory"
  • Thought matter was made of air, water, fire and Earth

EXPIREMENTS

Had no expirements because they waited for other scientists to test them.

Democritus was the first scientist to create a model. He was the first to discover that all matter is made up of invisible particles called atoms. His model of the atom was just a round solid ball. He knew nothing about electrons protons or neutrons.

DEMOCRITUS ATOMIC MODEL

Aristotle disagreed with Democritus's model of the atom. He felt that there was no smallest part of matter and the differences between substances were made of Earth, fire, air, and water. Aristotle in a way did not have a model because he believed atoms did not exist.
