AUSCHWITZ I: MAIN CAMP

• Site of block 11:place of severe torture
• Site of the black wall: where execution took place
• At the entrance there was a sign that said: Arbeit Macht Frei: work makes one free
• 90% of prisoners were Jewish
• Lethal injections of phenol to the heart were taken here.

AUSCHWITZ II: BIRKENAU

• In 1944 the camp contained 27,000 woman
• Most of the killings took place in Birkenau
• Prisoners were sent here to be killed in the gas chambers
• 2.1-2.5 million minimum number of victims
• Housed the most prisoners

AUSCHWITZ III: MONOWITZ

• Forced labor at the Buna synthetic rubber factory
• Held 12,000 prisoners, most Jewish
• 10,000 prisoners lost their lives because of being overworked
• Ellie Wiesel was an inmate with his father
• Side Note: Wiesel went through all three camp.
