THE BIG WEEK

TRANSFORMATION OF A TAXONOMY UNIT

INSPIRATION

  • The movie, "The Big Year" watched over the summer.
  • Husband says, "You should do that in class."
  • Initial thought, "I can't do a big year in class."
  • Jumping off thought, "I can do a Big Week!"
  • And...don't really like what I'm doing for taxonomy

DESIGN & COLLABORATION

  • Collaborated with PLC group about parameters of project
  • Wanted students to play role of birder & get outside
  • Key pieces to document: Family, Genus, Species
  • Must take picture of bird (no zoo, house or store birds)
  • Contest among Biology students

THE WERE PAYING ATTENTION

  • To nature around them!

  • We see the results & observe development
