ROBERT FROST

KATY VERBECK

Robert Frost lived from March 26, 1874 to January 29, 1963. He was born and raised in San Francisco until he was 11 years old. Unfortunately his Father died of tuberculosis while Robert was still young. His family then moved to Lawrence, Massachusetts where he started high school. During his high school years Robert met his future wife, Elinor White. After high school Frost attended Harvard University but soon had to drop out because of health concerns. Later on in life Elinor and Robert suffered the tragic loss of four of their children. They then moved to England when Robert was in his late 30’s and found a publisher who printed Frosts first book of poems.

Frost won four Pulitzer Prizes for his brilliant poetry. Robert Frosts Greatest work is Birches which was published in 1916. Another common work done by Frost is The Road Not Taken. Both of these poems express the beauty of nature.

Frost expresses nature through his greatest poem. He writes, “When I see birches bend to left and right
Across the lines of straighter darker trees,
I like to think some boy's been swinging them.
But swinging doesn't bend them down to stay
As ice-storms do. Often you must have seen them
Loaded with ice a sunny winter morning
After a rain.”

Robert Frost is important within American Literature because he brought realistic depictions of rural life to poetry. He also captured the rhythms of actual speech and created outstanding dramatic monologues.

I personally enjoy reading Robert Frosts works. They are written in a way I can easily imagine the nature he is writing about. I have memorized Frosts poem The Road Not Taken. He used rhyme and rhythm which makes it a great and easy poem to memorize.

HOW DOES NATURE EFFECT ONES LIFE?

My essential question is How does nature effect ones life?

certain environments can impact your stress level. A busy environment can increase your stress and blood pressure. On the other hand a calm and peaceful environment can reduce ones stress and heal pain. The website, taking charge of your health and wellbeing proves that nature benefits ones life, “...more than two-thirds of people choose a natural setting to retreat to when stressed.”
