Definition:
A rapid flow of snow moving downward set off by sounds or movement

CAUSES

  • Heavy snow or rain fall
  • Fresh snow sliding off ice
  • Vibration or movement
  • Human activity- 90%
  • Warm temperatures

EFFECTS

  • Death or severe injury
  • Destruction of property
  • Flashfloods

Protective measures

-check route for possible Avalanche ares
-learn how to use rescue equipment
-wear Avalanche Rescue Beacon
-Do a wall climbing check
-Have an avalanche airbag
