ORIGIN OF THE AZTECS

  • aztecs were not welcome to the valley of mexico in 125o ad
  • a king in that area gave the, land with an abundance of snakes, which they roasted on for food
  • that started the belief of quetzalcoatl, the sun god

  • unskilled laborers
  • slaves

  • the government had many rules but one rule that was that the government was allowed to choose who an incan person could marry

Warfare

  • boys were trained at a young age
  • aztecs fought for increased land and prisoners for sacrifices
  • incan people forced captured enemies to join the military and learn quechua, their language

SACRIFIces

  • sacrifices were made to please gods
  • aztec citizens sacrificed humans, food, blood, & animals
  • the inca normally only sacrificed food and animals. humans were only sacrificed during times of disaster and/or special occasions

  • hernan cortes wanted to escape the extremadura in spain
  • he was mistaken for quetzacoatl
  • the spanish brought over smallpox, making the aztecs weak
