The Babylonians lived in the ancient country of Mesopotamia, a fertile plain located between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, South of modern day Baghdad

Creation story
Before anything in this world there was Apsu, the sweet water see, and Tiamat, the salt water sea. When these two god mingled, they made two other gods, Lahamu and Lahamu. Then Lahamu and Lahamu also made gods named Anshar, Kishar, Anu.
This culture is a Ex Nihilo.

Marduk

  • God creator of the world and master of human destiny. He took the place of Anu as the king of the gods. He created the mankind in order to have beings on earth to serve the gods.

Ishtar

  • Both a godness of the moring light and the night star. She had a double character scene she was goddess of love and childbirth, as well as war

Other Gods

  • Anu- originally the father and king of the god
  • Apsu- the god of the Underworld Ocean
  • Ea- the god of the waters. He was also the god wisdom and art
  • Enili- the god of sky and earth. He was short-tempered god who was responsible for the great flood
  • Shamash- the sun god. He saw everything and, for this reason, he also the god of truth and justice
  • Sin- the moon god

After Life Beliefs

  • According to Babylonian belief a person separates into two constituents on death, namely the material corpse, called esemtu, and an immaterial spirit called etemmu, death spirit. This etemmu is not to be confused with the concept of a soul
