PRESENTATION OUTLINE

PROTEOBACTERIA

  • Photoautotroph, chemotroph, or heterotroph
  • Anaerobic or aerobic
  • Escherichia (pathogen)
  • Gram-negative
  • Outer membrane of polyccharides

ALPHA PROTEOBACTERIA

  • Closely associated with eucaryotic host
  • Grow at very low nutrient levels
  • Have unusual stalks/ buds
  • Includes Plant and human pathogens
  • Agrobacterium- pathogen for plants

GAMMA PROTEOBACTERIA

  • Subgroup of proteobacteria
  • Salmonella

DELTAPROTEOBACTERIA

  • Aerobe or anaerobe
  • Fruiting body forms myxobacteria
  • Contains most of the known sulfate
  • Deltaproteobacteria

EPSILON PROTEOBACTERA

  • Often causes intestine/tummy trouble
  • Live in the digestive tract of animals
  • Spirilloid
  • Campylobacter

CHLAMYDIAS

  • Parasites
  • Live in animal cells
  • Reproduce independently
  • Chlamydia trachomatis

SPIROCHETES

  • Helical heterotrophs
  • Serious pathogens for humans (pallidum treponema)
  • Found in liquid environment
  • Free living
  • Doesn't need oxygen

GRAM POSITIVE BACTERIA

  • Staphylococcus and Streptococcus
  • Can be pathogenic
  • Mycoplasms, smallest known cells
  • Opposite of gram negative bacteria
  • Bacillus anthracis
