WHAT ARE THE ELEMENTS OF A BALLAD?

Elements of Ballads

  • A ballad does not have a specific number of stanzas. It can be any amount.
  • The ending of a ballad is almost always sudden, Dramatic and unexpected.
  • Ballads have a REFRAIN in it.
  • A typical ballad is a plot-driven song, with one or more characters.
  • The best kind of ballads do not tell the reader what is happening but shows them instead

Who were some of the writers of these ballads?

Some of the writers of famous ballads are Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Wordsworth they were nineteenth century writers. Samuel wrote "The Rime of the Ancient" it's the most known poem in English writing

Ballads first began in the 15 century and became well known during the time of the Renaissance although they were not as famous or bought as much like other kinds of poems they were still writing and sold by many people.
