Number and Operations. 1.3 (D) apply basic fact strategies to add and subtract within 20, including making 10 and decomposing a number leading to a 10.

WHAT YOU NEED:

• Popsicle sticks
• Coffee can
• Markers
• Fun first graders

HOW TO PLAY

• Write a different addition problem on each stick (about 20-30).
• Write the word "BANG" on about 5 sticks.

• Put all of the sticks in a coffee can.
• Students will take turns pulling a stick.
• If the can answer the problem, they keep the stick.
• If they cannot answer the problem, the stick goes back into the can.

• If a student pulls a "BANG" all of their sticks go back into the can.
• The player with the most when time is up (teacher discretion) is the winner.
