CLASS OF DRUGS
Barbituates are apart of a group of drugs
called Sedative Hypnotics.

OTHER NAMES FOR BARBITURATES
Also known as Downers, Blue Heavens,
Blue Velvet, and Blud Devils.
3.
PHYSICAL EFFECTS
Used safely, it can induce sleep.
Used recreationally, they can
cause similar effects to drinking,
such as drowsiness or slurred speach.
It can also cause physical addiction.
4.
PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS
Barbiturates can reduce anxiety.
However, if not taken correctly, it
can cause a psychological addiction based
on the taker's need to feel good or
use a form of escapism.

HOW IT IS TAKEN
It is usually taken by pills,
but can also be injected into
the veins or muscles.
6.
SHORT TERM DAMAGE
Barbiturates, if used incorrectly, can cause
drowsiness, unconsciousness, slurred speech,
memory impairment, and being unable to control
certain bodily functions.

LONG TERM DAMAGE
Chronic tiredness, general lack of coordination
breathing disorders, slow reflexes, dizziness,
vision problems, comas, and death.

HISTORY OF BARBITUATES
They were used first in the early nineteenth century to treat
insomnia and siezure disorders. Usage has discreased since
the nineteen seventies as better drugs have been found.
9.
MEDICAL USES
Official medical uses include treating
insomnia and other disorders. Barbiturates
should not be used unless recommended by a
docter due to varying doses that may be needed.
