Baron de Montesquieu was born January 18, 1689 in La Brède, France. He died February 10, 1755.

He grew up in a small noble and prosperous family. His mom died when he was seven and his father was a soldier.

EDUCATION

  • Received a law degree from the University of Bordeaux in 1708
  • Was the most educated at the Oratorian College de Juilly for law feid and pysics of government

BELIEFES

  • Not all people were equal
  • Women were weaker than men
  • Women had to obey their husbands
  • Approved of slavery

  • Wrote the spirit of laws
  • Came up with the three-part goveernment
  • Constitutional Monarchy
  • Influenced the writing of our constitution

Baron de Montesquieu had a very big role in the Enlightenment and that was one of the main events that happened during his lifetime.
