QUINARY SYSTEM

  • Originated because of the five fingers on a hand
  • Can only be multiplied by four
  • Five is a prime number
  • The main usage today is the Biquinary system

BIQUINARY

  • Biquinary is a decimal system using 2 and 5 as sub-bases
  • Biquinary is found in the Wolof and Khmar languages
  • Roman numerals are a biquinary system

OTHER QUINARY DECIMAL SYSTEMS

  • Triquinary- a pentadecimal system with 3 and 5 as sub-bases
  • Quadquinary- a vigesimal system using 4 and 5 as sub-bases. Found in Nahautl and Mayan numerals
  • Pentavigesimal- A positional numeral system with 25 specific digits
