PRESENTATION OUTLINE

BASAL CELL, SQUAMOUS CELL, MALIGNANT MELANOMA

Evonne Johnson, Larissa Franklin, Jocelyn Arnett, Emileigh Stalder

Basal Cell

  • It's the most common type of Skin Cancer
  • Malignancy of Basal layer of epidermis or hair follicle
  • Caused by over exposure to sun light
  • Best seen in Blonde fair skin men
  • Mainly effects white people

BASAL CELL CONT.

  • Grows slowly
  • Develops crusting that is firm to the touch
  • May invade tissue
  • Metastases are uncommon with this type of cancer, but may destroy ear, nose or eyelid

Treatment for Basal Cell Carcinona

  • Treatment depends on size, depth, and location
  • Curettage and electrotrodesiccation, chemotherapy, surgical excision, irradiation, or chemosurgery .

SQUAMOUS CELL

  • arises from the skin that undergoes pathological hardening of epidermal cells.
  • it is an invasion tumor with potential for metastasis
  • mostly common in white men over 60 yeas
  • repeatedly going to ultra violet rays
  • radiation therapy, chronic skin irritation/inflammation, exposure to cancer agents

SQUAMOUS CELL

  • 2 types of squamous cell (in situ and invasion)
  • in situ- those that are confines to the original site
  • invasive- those that penetrate the sounded tissue
  • treatments are surgical excisions and radiation therapy.
  • surgical excisions; curettage and eletrodesiccation

SQUAMOUS CELL

  • radiation therapy; chemotherapy
  • carcinogens, xeroderma, pigmentosum, albinism, actinic keratosis, Bowen

Terms

  • Pressure ulcer: decubitus ulcer, pressure from laying, bedridden patients
  • Pruritus: intense itching
  • Tinea: ringworm, fungal infection, name tells what part is affected.
  • Vitiligo: localized loss of skin pigmentation, milk-white patches

Malignant Melanoma

  • A neoplasm composed of abnormal melanocytes, commonly in dark mole
  • The most lethal of the skin cancerss
  • Can metastasize extensively to the lung, liver or brain
  • Greater risk if you have blue eyes, red or blonde hair, and freckles.
  • Melanomas are diagnosed by biopsy, with histological examination
