IMPORTANCE OF KNOT TYING
- Survival can depend on a properly tied knot
- It can be used for our daily activities
- It can be used for securing a simple load or performing rudimentary but useful tasks
- It is one of the most simple yet useful skills that you need to know
BASIC KNOTS
- Bowline Knot
- Buntline Hitch
- Square Knot
Materials needed
- Rope
- Pole (for certain knots)
- If there's no rope, any string, lace, or anything that can be tied into a knot is okay
BOWLINE KNOT
-makes a reasonably secure loop in the end of a piece of rope
-does not slip under a load
-used for fastening a rope to a ring or a rope
BUNTLINE HITCH
-used to secure the buntlines to the foot of the square sails
-more secure thean two half hitches and very resistant to shaking loose
-cannot be tied under a load
SQUARE KNOT
-intended to be a binding knot
-can be used to tie a sail cover over a sail, tie shoe laces, and others
-should never be used for critical loads
