BASIC LIVING SKILLS PROJECT

BY: ZACHARY GIELEGHEM

WANTS VS. NEEDS

  • Wants: stuff you can live without, but that you really want at the time.
  • Needs: stuff that you need to live and can't live without.
  • Some wants are a Ps4, jewelry, iPad.
  • Some needs are water, food, shelter, clothes, car
  • I realize that wants are not necessary for living and that when you can afford them after getting needs, then you should get wants. Otherwise it can lead to debt, or struggle.

VISUAL LEARNER

  • Visual learner: someone who learns by seeing.
  • There are certain ways to learn and being visual is seeing how to do it.
  • I apply this to myself because this is how I learn best actually. By seeing other people do it first.

AUDITORY LEARNER

  • Auditory learner: a person who learns best by listening to someone. Listening to a video to learn the material.
  • I learned this is one of the three types of learners, and it's my second best type of learning.

VERBAL VS. NONVERBAL

  • Verbal communication: saying yes or giving responses to someone your talking to.
  • Nonverbal communication: nodding or smiling, giving eye contact,
  • I use both verbal and nonverbal communication on a daily basis at both school and home. It helps me talk to people better.

DESTRUCTIVE VS. CONSTRUCTIVE COMMUNICATION

  • Destructive: is being mean to someone, such as bullying and mentally bringing someone down.
  • Constructive: is bringing someone up and being respectful to them.
  • I use constructive communication all the time to be nice to people. But I also use destructive when I'm angry, even though I shouldn't. I've learned that using constructive not only makes the other person feel good, but also you.

ENDING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Relationships: when two people are together and connect, or get to know each other better. Ending a relationship is a hard thing to do but if you don't want to be with someone anymore you have to break it off.
  • I used it very recently actually with a girl because I see her as a friend only and not like a girlfriend. This helped me out very much when telling her I just wanted to be friends. It will also be useful when I get older.

TIME MANAGEMENT TIPS

  • Time management tips: using good time management can help you keep away from stressful situations, and keep you on track for your daily schedule.
  • Learning this in this class has helped me keep up on my homework and other stuff. It will definitely help me in the future with work and stuff.

STRESS MANAGEMENT

  • Stress management: this is when your are stressful and need to use counting to ten, and going on walks, and making sure you don't have that much to do. Stress is hard to overcome but there are ways to get around it.
  • I got very stressed out with baseball and accelerated classes trying to keep my grades up. Knowing from this class how to deal with stress it helped me manage my stress good.

DEPRESSION

  • Depression: is the feeling of being lonely and not being accepted. It's a major problem among teens and people today.
  • I haven't really experienced depression that bad, but if I ever did I would know how to deal with it do to this class. Such as having to much homework, or just being down.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION

  • Conflict resolution: when you get into a rough situation with a friend or family member. Or just a rough situation in life. There are certain ways to deal with this conflict, and get through it.
  • With learning this in class if I get into a rough situation in school or life I know how to resolve it. Such as when I was struggling a week ago to get my schoolwork done while going to varsity baseball practices and playoffs. I used bot time management and conflict resolution to get through it.

DECISION MAKING PROCESS

  • Decision making process: Identify situation, gather information, find best choices, make decision, review the outcome.
  • The decision making process has helped me out a lot throughout school with whether to do certain activities. This year I decided to work and do baseball rather than do basketball. The decision making process helped me to make the best decision for me.

COPING SKILLS

  • Coping skills: how to cope with problems in your life, and at school or work. Or even as serious as abuse in your life.
  • If it's as serious as abuse then you of course need to talk to a adult or counselor to help you out. But if it's just school try and find a tutor, or a teacher to help. If it's at work try and find a new job that won't cause to much stress or struggle in your life. I had a problem with a kid at school so now I just ignore him, and he doesn't bother me anymore.

MY PARAGRAPH

  • In this class I have learned so much about life and how to handle it in both the good and bad. From depression to dating. This class has made me both a stronger person and wiser person in situations in my life. As the class has progressed I have seen these topics occur in my life, and I see how this class has helped me. At first I didn't think it would be so much help, but it has helped me in relationships, school, in my family, and where I work. This class was very beneficial to me, and I'm glad I took it. It will also help me in future decisions such as college, my job, and finding good friends.
