DATE, LOCATION, WHO VS. WHO

  • Date- June 6, 1944
  • Location- Beaches of Normandy, France
  • Who vs. Who- U.S., Great Britain, and Canada vs. Germans

LEAD UP

  • France was entirely taken by Nazi Germany
  • Allied powers were fighting to take back France and give it back to the French

DETAILS

  • Allies conducted a plan to mislead Germany where the invasion is
  • Invasion was supposed to take place on June 5, but got moved because of weather
  • By june 11, beaches were fully secured at Normandy, France

ESIENHOWER SAID..

  • "You are about to embark upon the great crusade which we have striven
  • There many months. The eyes of the world are upon you."

THE OUTCOME

  • The battle ended on june 11
  • After the battle the allied powers pushed Germany out of France
  • Allied powers won the battle of D-Day

SIGNIFICANCE

  • This battle started the regaining of France
  • It proved that allied powers would not give up on their allies
