• Started August 23rd, 1942
• Ended February 2nd, 1943

Hitler wanted to take Stalingrad for control of the oil fields
And because it had stalin's name in it, so it was symbolic

• Soviet forces surround and crushed German voices, similar to Hannibal and the Romans
• They fought for the city street by street
• 150,000 German soldiers died
