BATTLE OF PRINCETON

WHERE DID IT TAKE PLACE?

  • Princeton, New Jersey
  • How Long? It started January 3rd, 1777 and Ended in 1783.
  • The War Lasted For At least 16 years

THE WAR

  • Who Fought In it? The British and continental army.
  • How Did the soldiers Fight? They fought by horse and ground, both sides had muskets and cannons.
  • The major Generals: British- General William Howe- Continental Army - George Washington, and General Cornwallis

RESULTS OF THE WAR

  • Ended In 1783, 16 years later from 1777.
  • Washington And His Continental Army Where at victory.
  • Casualties - Forty Patriots and 275 british soldiers died during the battle.
  • British Also had 323 of their men captured during the battle.
  • Both sides were in debt from the war

WHY IS THIS BATTLE SIGNIFICANT?

  • British lost complete control of New Jersey, forcing the British to New York
  • It brought colonist even further into the war, in which they are brought closer to victory by winning battles.
  • It brought more power among the colonists

FACTS

  • Battle of Princeton was a conflict between colonists and great britain.
  • Washington left troops to build fortificaton and lead a major force towards Princeton, New Jersey
  • Washington mounted a Night Attack on the British, and get out before General Cornwallis would come back with his reinforcements.
  • Long Winters Were Experienced
