Diction

  • Diction is the author's use of language, or choice of words.
  • There is High Diction
  • And there is low diction
  • formal and informal, respectively

Low diction

  • is informal language
  • Words like yummy, and more casual language is low diction
  • one might say mr. bear has low diction

Mr. Bear has low diction, correct his choice of words.

I yeet Dat yummy honey from dem bees, boi.

High Diction

  • Is Formal language
  • Words like thou and art. More shakesperian language would be high diction

Mr. Bear's Wife, Mrs Bear has high diction

Where art my spouse? I must speak to him for he has partook of my honey.

Slang

  • words like bet and slick are slang
  • this is highly informal, and more likely than not, not real words.
  • These words should not be used in writing.

Mr. bear uses slang

Words in mr. bear's previous sentence like yeet, dem, and boi. are all slang.

Dialect

  • Dialect is regional accentustion, articulstion and vocabulary
  • A southern accent would be dialect.

Mr. Bear is Southern

Mr. Bear has a southern dialect. he  draws each of his words.

Jargon

  • Jargon is a set of complex vocabulary relating to a topic
  • Music Jargon is different than science jargon
  • Those not well versed in the topic are likely to not understand the jargon.

Colloquialism

  • Colloquialism is the use of informal and nonliterary words.
  • This type of language is prodomanintly used in conversation.
  • This, like slang, should never be used in writing.

When the  bears talk to each other they are colloquial

when the bears speak to one another they use words like dude, bro, come on,, and others

although the bears speak different, they hope you learned  something
