Belief Statements

Of Habitudes, Dispositions, and Grit

Our mindsets determine if we are successful or not.

Even if we do not have all the materials or knowledge needed to be successful at the time, if our mindset is growth, we will get there eventually.

If we cannot imagine the outcome, we will never achieve it.

If we cannot set goals and dreams for ourselves and our students, we will not reach them. If students and teachers cannot see what is possible, they will not work for what they can't see.

We need to fail in order to succeed.

In education, we need to be able to fail to then have the opportunity to grow from our mistakes. We can grow without failure, but failure pushes us to change if we are in growth mindset.

Imagination and creativity develop with practice.

I love using the example of playing improv in games or music. In music, it actually takes a pretty good musician to be good at making things up as they go. They put a lot of practice into being artistic and creative.

In order to grow, we must be open minded.

If we are close minded we miss opportunities to try new ways to reach our goals.

Excellence

over perfection
Our goal should be growth. The word perfection is associated with people who have fixed mindsets.

Be Real

with yourself
If we are not honest, reflective, and real with ourselves we are not setting ourselves up to be gritty.

Keep going!

Growth mindset means we keep going! Once we reach our goal, great! Now, keep going!
