SHINTOISM

  • There is no known founder of Shintoism
  • Shinto shrines are the places of worship.
  • Shintos believe that almost everything has a living spirit - especially mountains.
  • They believe in Kami as their God.

BUDDHISM

  • Buddha Shakyamuni is the founder of Buddhism.
  • Buddhism teaches that all actions have consequences called Karma
  • A key belief in all Buddhist groups is the importance of meditation.
  • Some Buddhist schools have many Gods, others have none.

TAOISM

  • Laozi is the founder of Taoism.
  • Believed that an individual should seek harmony with nature.
  • Believes that the government should leave the people alone and do as little as possible.
  • Taoism does not have a God because they believe all are equal.

CONFUCIONISM

  • Confucianism was founded by Confucius
  • They believe that children should obey their parents and parents should obey the government.
  • They believe that education is very important.
  • They believe that that humans are teachable improvable, and perfectible through personal endeavour.

CONFUCIANISM VS. TAOISM

  • They are both a religion and a philosophy.
  • Both worship in a temple or a shrine.
  • Confucianism concerns with the social and moral side of life, Taoism focuses on the individual, spiritual life.
  • Confucianism believes in one God while Taoism believes in multiple.
