FUN FACTS

  • They are located in India,Bangladesh, Nepal,and Bhutan
  • Tigers usually have solitary lives, except during mating season
  • They are very good swimmers and have been known to kill prey while swimming.
  • Tigers mainly eat ambar deer, wild pigs, water buffalo and antelope.
  • Bengal tigers are mammals and it's a carnivore.

  • The average span in wildlife is 8-10 years
  • There weight is from 240 to 500 lbs
  • The size of the head to the body is 5 to 6 ft
  • Tiger's roar can be heard as far as 2 mi (3 km) away.
  • The population of the tiger now is 2,000

REPRODUCTION

  • Mating season is around November to April
  • Gestation: 103 days.
  • Litter size: 3-4 cubs
  • Cubs follow their mother out of the den around 8 weeks.
  • Around 8 weeks and become independent at around 18 months of age.

ENDANGERED?

  • As climate change continues to warm the planet, tigers are feeling the heat.
  • As we see ocean levels rise, tigers are losing habitat due to costal erosion.
  • As rising sea levels claim more habitat and sea water moves up river,and more salt is in the water
  • These are forcing the tigers to move northward to areas more populated by humans.
  • This is increasing the likelihood of animal/human conflicts.

MOTHER HOOD

  • Mothers guard their young from wandering males that may kill the cubs
  • Around 8 weeks the cubs are allowed to come out of the den
  • They leave their mothers at about 2 ½ years
