• The people of Herot celebrate

GRENDEL'S MOTHER

• Grendel's mother seeks revenge
• She attacks Herot
• Carries off King Hrothgars best friend, and Grendel's arm

BEOWULF IS SUMMONED

• The people of Herot warn Beowulf
• No one has ever returned from Grendel's lair
• He ignores everyones warning
• Beowulf swims for hours to reach the lair.

• The noise of the fighting attracts other monsters
• She carries Beowulf into a great battle hall

THE BATTLE ENSUES

• No sword could slice her evil
• She bit holes in his helmet
• He throws his sword to the side, as it is useless.
• Grendel's mother sits on him and tries to stab him
• His chain mail shirt saves him.
