What’s important when leading cell group discussions?

Show up, filled up.

Different personalities have different styles. Learn from yourself.

When you don’t know, say you don’t know, write it down, follow up.

The most important parts of discussion are the beginning and the end.

The group will go as deep as you go. Share deeply, but wisely.

Don’t be tempted to answer all questions. Engage others by calling on specific people to share what they think.

Guard your heart."Keep your heart with all vigilance,
for from it flow the springs of life."
-Proverbs 4:23

Have accountability with either another CGL or a friend or both and pray together.

Spend time loving God first, receive His love, your CG will benefit.

Expose the darkness and light will prevail. Expose your hidden areas.

Recognize your responsibility is not change in people, but faithfulness to an audience of One.

Be vulnerable to your CG, but remember you are their example on how to deal with trials.

Meet your CG members as friends and peers, not as superior/inferior.

Have humility; a very sober understanding of yourself. Not to take yourself too seriously, not being too entitled.

Best Practices

Confidentiality: Especially for all girl groups, you have to emphasize importance of confidentiality at the start of the semester.

Example: CAt shared a struggle with her friend Chris. Chris then tells Caleb about CAt’s struggle so they can both pray for her. That is gossip because CAt shared with Chris only in confidentiality.

Invest into one or two potential leaders in order to train them as a possible CGL.

What sets apart the best leaders is how much they invested into the personal lives of their members.

You should be a little worried if...

You don't have a personal testimony and relationship with Jesus.

You don’t regularly talk and spend time with Him alone.

Then CG leading will become work rather than obedience.

And you can grow bitter and accuse others and yourself.

But this is why Jesus came. Cuz that will happen. And He will rescue us over and over again.

And when you taste that sweet grace is when your CG will benefit the most.
