MATTHEW 5:33-37 "THE MEANING"

  • This passage states that we should never take
  • oaths lightly, because every word we say is
  • witnessed by God. This passage also says

  • is what you have vowed to The Lord to do.

MATTHEW 5:33-37 "THE CHALLENGES"

  • In our society today it is very easy to stray
  • From our words and our promises, but we

MATTHEW 5:33-37 "BIBLICAL INTERPRETATION"

  • This teaching is best interpreted literally because
  • There is no story involved. If we follow this passage
  • As a Literalist we will stick to our word and not
  • promise to a false oath.

MATTHEW 5:33-"THE TRUTH"

  • The truth that would best describe this passage is
  • Moral truth because a moral truth tells us what is
  • Right and what is wrong. This passage tells us
  • That is is right to stay true to our word.

MATTHEW 5:33-37 "THE GENRE"

  • The genre of this passage is law. This is because
  • rules and teachings in the Bible define a proper
  • Relationship with God and others in the world.
  • By keeping our promises, we can live properly
  • In the world with a proper relationship with God

"HOW DOES IT RELATE TO ME?"

  • This passage relates to my life because it reminds us that
  • When we take an oath or make a promise, we must stay
  • True to it. This is very important because it also relates
  • To telling the truth, and not spreading lies. This is very
  • Relevant in my life because people constantly spread

"HOW DOES IT RELATE TO ME?" CONT

  • Rumours and gossip, and it becomes habit to
  • Join into sinful conversations, so we must remember
  • The promises we make to God to not lie, as we have
  • in the eighth commandment "thou shall not bear false
  • Witness against thy neighbour."
