ABOUT

• Lions and tigers and other big cats (as referred to) are amazing creatures
• They are hunted for their beautiful skin and mat/fat to make medicine
• Also bones are very expensive on the black market trade
• The ability to roar is common between big cats especially lions and tigers
• Their interesting way of hunting makes them close to the top of the food chain

THREATS

• Poaching is a big part of making big cats extinct
• In the USA 20 states have banned private ownership of bug cats
• Habitat destruction destroys forests and places where big cats live
• Poaching police are out hunting for poachers each day
• Tiger numbers are drastically going down

NUMBERS

• Numbers are drastically going down
• There are only about 3500 tigers left in the world
• There are only about 311 white lions left
• There are only about 17,000 lions left but in 2000 there was 25,000
• There are only about 6400 snow leopards left on earth

BEHAVIOUR

• Behavior of big cats is very strange
• One minute they are quiet and sleeping but when they see dinner it's POUNCE
• These creatures are almost at the top of the food chain because of their astounding way of catching prey
• When around females males will fight to be with the female
• The males tend to stay with the female for some time

DIET

• Leopards eat meat but also large quantities of grass and other types of vegetation
• Lions and tigers also eat meat like zebra,gazelle and elephants
• The bite of these animals is very vast killing in seconds
• In zoos meat is fed to the cats
