Big Horn Sheep

  • Bighorn sheep are large and stocky
  • They weigh around 55 kg to 90 kg.
  • Bighorn sheep are strong and agile.

All Bighorn Sheep have horns, they grow soon after birth. They keep growing throughout life. The horn's rings indicate the age. The horns grow very large and heavy. They use these horns for breaking open cacti and fighting.

Bighorn sheep usually live for 10-20 years.Bighorn sheep eat grasses, but when it becomes scarce they turn to other sources of nutrients.

Unlike most mammals the Bighorn sheep's body temperature can fluctuate a few degrees, but when it's really hot they hide in the shade.

Bighorn sheep herd up in large group from 8-100. They fight to find the dominant animal by clashing their horns.

Bighorn sheep band together in groups of different sexes. Only in breeding season (July-October) Do they come together. Gestation usually takes 150 - 180 days.
