HISTORY
Paul Broca, French neurologist (1824-1880). First to discover brain size is related to intellectual achievement.
J.P. Rushton, born in England, and traveled to South Africa then Canada by the time he was a teen.
In 1970 Rushton earned his B.S. for psychology at Birbeck college in London.
Three years later in 1973, Rushton earns his Ph D. for his work with altruism in children.
Became a full time professor in 1985 at the University of West Ontario.

HISTORY CONT.
(1989) Gives his controversial research to the American association for the advancement of science.
(1989) Opens the Charles Dawson Research Institution in Port Huron, Michigan.
The institution is conveniently located over the border of London, Ontario. Near Rushton's home.
1992, Rushton earns his Doctor of science at the University of London.

RESEARCH AND TEST SUBJECTS
Race-IQ gap research is what made Rushton a household name.
More heavily debated and controversial than his earlier studies.
Rushton researched the gap in MEAN IQ differences between the following:
Races- Black, White, and Asian
Male and female, infant through elderly, alive or deceased, and different cultures around the world.

Weighing wet brains at autopsy
Measuring empty skull volume with a filler
Measuring external head size and estimating volume
Computer assisted tomography (CAT)
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

OTHER RESEARCH FACTORS
Kin selection, a tool used by Rushton and other scientist.
Kin selection - when another has similar genetic traits and it is the reason for acceptance.
Tool - Reaction time measures:
Simple reaction time, choice reaction time, odd-man-out reaction time.
These are tests that require no training and can be completed in under a second.
