Biographical Information

• Real name is William Ivan Martin Jr.
• An American educator
• Author of more than 300 children's books.
• Kansas State has an award for best Children's picture book names the Bill Martin Jr. Award.
• Texas A&M Commerce has a library on campus named after him and the library contains all of his books.

• Bill Martin Jr.'s books are picture books with graphic illustrations. Reading these books aloud in the classroom will allow students to look up and put themselves in the story.
• Allowing the students to see the diversity within his picture books will allow them to connect with others during story time.

Martin finished college and then earned a master's degree and doctoral degree in early childhood education. After working as a schoolteacher and principal, he moved to New York City in 1961, where he developed literature-based reading programs for a publishing house.
